Our shoes are cut wide at the front already, so getting the length right matters most, and it is easy to do at home.
Measure your feet at home
- Measure toward the end of the day. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons notes that feet can swell by up to 8% over a day.
- Stand on a sheet of paper, in the socks you plan to wear, and mark your heel and the tip of your longest toe. On many feet the longest toe is the second one.
- Do both feet. If one is longer, buy for that one: both the AAOS and the American Podiatric Medical Association give that advice.
- Measure the distance between the marks. When you try the shoes, you want about half an inch between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
Which size to order
Order the US size you wear in sneakers. You do not need to go up a size for width: the AAOS points out that a wider toe box is a better answer to a wide foot than a bigger size, which only lets the foot slide. If you fall between two sizes, take the larger one.
A pair should feel right from the first try. The APMA advises against counting on breaking in a shoe that pinches in the store, and the same goes for a pair that pinches at home.

When the fit is wrong
- Your heel lifts clear of the insole with every step: the pair is too long. Try half a size down.
- Your longest toe touches the end when you stand: the pair is too short. Go half a size up.
- The shoe presses on the outside of your little toe even at the right length: ask us which style suits your foot best.
